Aspendos Theatre

The Aspendos Theatre, which was constructed in 2nd Century at a place 38 km to Side,

is an amphitheater of 17.000 persons and best conserved one.The secret of the perfect acoustic that was created by a youth living in this area still can not be solved. The Seljuks have used the building as a caravan-palace in 13th century and supported the northern side of the building with an arch of typical Seljuks architecture. By turning north after passing Serik on the Antalya-Alanya highway on can enter the 4-km of Aspendos road. Its history can reach up to 5th Century B.C. The Aspendos theatre that was built in 2nd Century D.C. was used as a caravan-palace in Seljuks period and has been repaired from time to time. It is one of the rare theatres, which has been preserved in a best way with its stage. It is currently used for various concerts, festivals, celebrations and greased-wrestling. Along with other buildings, Agora, Bazilika, Nymphaeum and arched waterlines of 15 km long are the structures worth seeing them.

Manavgat Fall

The Manavgat Fall, which is located 3 km west of the Manavgat district, carries same name with district. Although it falls from an amazing height, its strongly flowing creates a sight worth seeing it. Picnic can be made very near the fall with nature one within the another and fresh fish can be eaten at the restaurant nearby. It is an ideal place far away from the city noise to become a united whole with the nature. Transportation is available with Dolmush (shared taxies) departing from Manavgat.

 

 

 

Köprülü Canyon National Park

Köprülü Canyon National Park is 65 km away from Side and can be reached through 40 km of highway that splits from 40-km northeast of Antalya and

goes to Taşağıl and Beşkonak and it is located at the skirts of the Toros Mountain. The area of the National Park is 37.000 hectares. The Dipoyraz Mountain which is located east of the has a height of 2980 meters and its slopes are covered with forests. The Köprü Stream, which is located between Bolaşan Village and Beşkona, lays between valleys and canyons which are covered with cedar forests having 120 km of length and 100 meters of depth. The river valley, which is in the Park, is in a form of a canyon in some areas with steep walls having 14 km of length. After the end of the canyon the stream runs within a wide bed which its surroundings covered with green plants. The Köprüçay River is one of the beautiful natural recreation areas in Turkey. In addition to this, many archeological sources such as the historic Selge City, which is located at the mountainous land west of the river, castles and water arches near the river, bridges of the Roman ages and historic roads make the KÖPRÜLÜ CANYON NATIONAL PARK one of the places worth seeing it.

Selge

Selge,which was founded south slope of the Toras Mountains, near Köprüçay,

at a height of 950 meter above seal level, is an antic Pisidya Mountain City. Selge can be reached through a steep and curved 4 km of road after Köprülü Canyon. The road, which goes to Selge, passes through Köprülü Canyon that has very rich in natural beauty aspect. On the road; there are carved racks that are similar to peri bacaları (earth pillars) and cover all mountain slope. It is assumed that Selge has been founded by Kalches. The city has been controlled in turn by Lydia, Persia, Iskender and Rome administration. Its main and best-conserved monument is theatre with 5 doors and 45 steps, which is located at north. To the south of the theatre, which was carved in a rocky place, stadium and gymnasium, to the east Ion type temple having ceiling ornamented with eagle motifs, draws attraction. There is an agora and a fountain located to the south of the stadium. Artemis and Zeus temples are side by side to the north of the city wall that lies to the southwest of the city. To the west of these temples lies water cisterns, to the north tombs and ornamented grave-monuments and necropolis. The city has not damaged since it is located on the hills far from busy roads

One can reach to ruins of the Seleukeia 23-km northeast of Side and northwest of Manavgat at the Toros Mountains direction after 12 km in Şıhlar Village. This antic city, which is located 4 km north of the Şıhlar Village and at a one hour walking distance, has been founded by Selevkos.The city, which was establish 300's BC for defensive purposed Acropolis city on a hill, brings to realization all plain and sea with its geography of steep slopes and deep valleys. This thesis is verified since there is a land suitable for agriculture, its surrounding is supported with rampart and a trade line has go through the place where it is located. Its two-store agora, basilica, cistern and canalization system can be names as indicators of the development of the city. The mosaics found during archeology diggings of the city are exhibited in the Antalya Museum

 

Vespasianus Fountain

The forehead of the fountain, which is located west-end of the Agora near the Theatre and has an arch of 15 meters in height and 7 m. in width, was coated with marbles. This single-basin fountain draws attraction with its ornaments on it.

Oymapınar Dam

The Oymapınar Dam, which is currently fifth biggest dam of our country, has been established on the Manavgat stream and commissioned on 1984. It is a concrete arch type. It is consisted of 4 turbines each generates 135 megawatt energy per hour. Its total power is 540 megawatt/hour. The height from the base is 185 meters. The reservoir volume of the dam, which has a lake area of 470 hectares, is 300 million m3. 1,2 billion kW/hour energy is generated in every year.
